Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, Indonesia
Jakarta Content Week (JakTent) is an international Literary and Creative content festival pioneered and organized by 17000 Islands of Imagination Foundation in collaboration with the Frankfurter Buchmesse (FBM) with a focus on Asia Pacific.
Jaktent is also one of the major initiatives of Jakarta’s Unesco City of Literature putting books and literature in the heart of the city and its people. Moreover, Jaktent is actively involved in the International literature scenes and book fairs.
Major players from various sectors of the creative industries— publishing, culinary, fashion, crafts, film, music, design, games, cosplay, digital startups, and other media—gather to discuss technological developments, exchange ideas and experiences and showcase products. There are exhibitions, performances and business transactions. Together these form a creative ecosystem - and we focus on the Asia Pacific region.

Hi everyone! We have some great news for you. This year, Jakarta International Literary Festival (JILF) and Jakarta Content Week (Jaktent) are collaborating to bring you a festive event at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) from November 27 to December 1, 2024.
JILF presents "F/acta" while Jaktent focuses on "Shared Culture, Shared Future" as their respective themes. With their successful histories, these two international festivals are now teaming up to create a diverse range of literary perspectives that play an important role in enriching our knowledge of the latest issues related to the environment, art, and culture.
Anton Kurnia, Director of JILF and Chair of the Literature Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council, shares his point of view about this year’s theme. “We are now trapped in the Anthropocene calabendum, an era characterized by the destructive impact of humans on the earth and threatening environmental sustainability. On the other hand, we see how several literary works have emerged to offer alternative perspectives on how to ‘create’ a better world amid this situation,” Anton said.
JILFxJakTent 2024 includes various programs including a media exhibition (in collaboration with National Geographic Indonesia, Mongabay, and Trend Asia), a book bazaar (in collaboration with IKAPI), writers’ forum, book launchings, workshops, and discussions. You can also find exhibition booths from German Stories, Arcanum Hobbies, Jakarta Unesco City of Literature, Salatiga City Library and Archives Office, Mongabay, NatGeo Indonesia, and also TaCita.
On November 27, Hiromi Kawakami will mark the opening of JILF x JakTent 2024 with her poetic insights and commentary on ecological criticism, as well as personal stories that offer sustainable practices in the world of literature. As a prominent Japanese writer, Hiromi Kawakami is known for her gentle narrative in exploring the relationship between humans, nature, and the beauty of everyday life from her depiction of the earthquake disaster in some of her works.
Another international figure who will be attending is Naghmeh Mostashar Nezami, an Iranian poet, translator, and academic. Naghmeh is actively involved in Iran's cultural and literary community. Also not to be missed in JILFxJaktent 2024 is Isabel Fargo Cole, a writer, translator, and editor. Her debut novel, Die grüne Grenze (Edition Nautilus, 2017), was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Award; her second novel, Das Gift der Biene (Edition Nautilus, 2019), was selected for LiteraTour Nord 2019.
We also got a lineup of interesting topics and amazing speakers. Leila Chudori, Adriano Qalbi, and Nugraha Pratama will talk about the importance of journaling and how their journaling methods help them create depth within their own works. Agustinus Wibowo and Dee Lestari will take a closer look at the importance of travel as the core component of finding our self-identities. Nyak Ina Raseuki and Agus Hardiman will explore the topic of music as a tool in the preservation of cultural heritage. Hilmar Farid, Jacob Sura, and FFFAAARRR will discuss the values of historical buildings and how they can be successfully transformed into lively public spaces.
Last but not least, Farwiza Farhan, a passionate environmentalist, and TIME 100 Next Leader, will conclude this year’s JILFxJaktent with a speech that bridges literature and environmentalism, inspiring collective action. Her closing speech will reflect on the festival’s exploration of eco-literature, marginalized voices, and radical imagination, emphasizing how storytelling can foster a deeper connection to our planet.
.
As you can see, We've got a jam-packed schedule of exciting activities for you. Join us at this collaborative festival as we share ideas, spark new dialogues, and create a learning space for everyone!
